About the Artist

Sister Jean Gent,
porcelain artist
Sister Jean, who had always wanted to paint, started with drawing
later in life, with the intent that she would move on to oil
painting. She was living in Eugene, Oregon and ran into an
accomplished artist who offered to teach her how to paint with
oils. After a year and a half, her teacher was no longer
able to work with Jean and Jean's sister, Marie Weeks, a well-known porcelain
artist, convinced her to start working with porcelain.
She immediately found her niche and has
been practicing for more than ten years now.
Earlier in life, Sister served as elementary teacher, principal and health
care provider. She says of herself,
" I feel my life has been quite simple, sharing with others a
certain "calmness." I take to a roll of supporting more
than one of leadership. For the most part, I am a friendly
eager, quiet person."
